Calling It Quits: Or, In Whose Best Interest?

Calling It Quits: Or, In Whose Best Interest? will be an interactive four-session virtual seminar for advanced Collaborative Practice training, led by Elizabeth S. Thayer, PhD and Louise R. Zito, Esq., with guest Beth M. Karassik, PhD.

March 26, April 9, April 23, and May 7 from 11:30 AM - 1:30 PM EST.

It guides Collaborative Practice professionals through the decision-making process when a case reaches impasse. Often, teams adapt the Collaborative process to avoid termination, even when it may compromise integrity and client interests. This seminar will help participants recognize when to consider ending a case, evaluate client dynamics, and navigate the emotional, legal, and ethical implications involved. Participants will learn to identify “beige” and “red” flags, uphold self-determination, and apply IACP Ethical Standards during case termination. The program emphasizes that ending a case can be an ethical obligation rather than a failure. Through discussions and exercises, attendees will develop skills for assessing cases continuously and engaging in candid conversations with clients and team members. By the end, participants will be able to determine when it is in the clients’ best interest to “call it quits” with professionalism and respect.
